Been there, done that...
Sept. 13
Slaton also gave up a costly fumble on his best play, a 17-yard catch-and-run in the second quarter.
Sept. 22
Texans coach Gary Kubiak criticized Steve Slaton Monday for fumbling.
"He can definitely run better," Kubiak said. "My concern with him, as I told him today, he's got three balls on the ground in (26) carries in two games. That can't happen."
Sept. 29
Coming into the game, Kubiak took some shots at Slaton, saying he regretted not signing Cedric Benson and he wanted to get Ryan Moats more carries.
Oct. 5
Despite Steve Slaton's two-touchdown performance, coach Gary Kubiak continued to express frustration with the Texans' rushing attack after Sunday's game.
The Texans managed just 47 total yards on 33 snaps in the second half. Slaton is averaging a miniscule 3.3 yards per carry on the season, and the team was held to 2.9 YPC Sunday. Though Kubiak credited Slaton for responding to his mid-game benching, the coach is still miffed about Slaton's fumbling issues and low per-carry average.
Slaton had a few red zone touches early but was temporarily benched for Ryan Moats after his fourth fumble of the season.
Oct. 20
Texans coach Gary Kubiak said his biggest concern with Steve Slaton right now is his fumbles.
It's not a problem that will threaten Slaton's playing time, as long as he corrects it. Slaton lost another fumble in Sunday's win over the Bengals and has now fumbled five times in six games. Chris Brown replaced Slaton immediately after his latest fumble, but Kubiak said he thought Brown was the better back to run out the clock.
Oct. 26
Despite another lost fumble, Texans coach Gary Kubiak expressed confidence in Steve Slaton after Sunday's game.
"People smell blood because he's put some balls on the ground," Kubiak said. "Steve's our guy, and I have a lot of confidence in him. It's our job to help him find a way to hold on to the football."
So why is he sitting on your bench for basically the entire game?
Bye Bye confidence...
Nov. 1
Steve Slaton has been benched after losing a fumble after a first-quarter catch.
It was Slaton's fifth lost fumble of the season. Coach Gary Kubiak is now using Ryan Moats in the featured back role.
Coach Gary Kubiak wouldn't say whether Slaton lost his job. Where'd that confidence go?
If Texans running back Steve Slaton's latest turnover means he's fumbled away his starting job in Houston, Ryan Moats is certainly ready to step in.
Why reward futility? This is a business, not just a game. Plus, Slaton is not a true running back IMO, he is merely a short guy with a little bit of speed if nobody touches him. Ahmad Bradshaw is more of a running back.
